Florida business litigation seeks $3 million in damages

On Behalf of | Jun 1, 2016 | Business Litigation |

Miami residents depend a great deal on local businesses to meet their wants and needs. Businesses depend on other businesses as well, which can lead to disputes between different companies when things do not turn out as planned.

For example, a Florida based business recently filed a lawsuit against another company after it claimed the second company intentionally misrepresented itself. The second company provides special services, including the servicing of corporate jet engines. According to the complaint that was filed, the second company over-stated its capabilities and equipment, as well as the cost and time-frame for completing the requested services.

The plaintiff in the business litigation further alleges the second company did not have the expertise it represented, and performed shoddy work on the plaintiff’s engine. As a result, the plaintiff is seeking compensatory damages in excess of $3 million, as well as an additional $3 million in punitive damages.

It remains to be seen how the lawsuit will be resolved. However, the case illustrates how significant business litigation can arise after a business dispute escalates between different companies. The stakes are high in these cases, with potential damages easily running hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions of dollars as in the case detailed above.

Accordingly, when business disputes arise between different organizations, companies need to know how to protect their interests. If another company has breached a contract or other duty, the business should understand their ability to hold that entity accountable. This includes pursuing litigation to recover any damages the company has suffered in the matter.
