Breach of contract suit filed against sports team

A baseball team is under fire for allegedly not paying out money owed to a partner, according to business news sources. Florida fans may be familiar with the Lake Erie Crushers, whose parent company Avon Baseball LLC is being sued for breach of contract by the town that bears its name. The suit stems from a contract dispute culminating in the June 12 filing.

When a contract dispute takes place, sometimes legal action is inevitable in Florida. In one recent out-of-state case involving an alleged breach of contract, one technology company has filed a lawsuit over the medical insurance exchange in the state. The company, called Oracle Corp., claimed that the state government was using Oracle’s software in spite of disputed bills totaling more than $20 million.

Contract dispute could lead to teacher strike

Nearly 48,000 students' classes may be disrupted starting Feb. 20 if a contract between a school district in the northwest and the teachers' association is not finalized by then. The contract dispute involves several issues, but a sticking point between the parties is the size of classes in the district. Other issues surround insurance coverage, wages and the workloads of teachers -- all issues with which Florida teachers can relate.

Hotel faces breach of contract suit

A Supreme Court is overseeing the case of a hotel being sued by a billionaire's conglomerate for refusing entrance to a board meeting by a company observer. Florida residents may be aware of the Morgans Hotel Group, which is being sued for breach of contract by Yucaipa Cos. overseen by billionaire Ron Burkle. The court documents suggest Morgans has done "everything possible" to undermine the ability of a nominated observer to attend board meetings.

Contract dispute at Florida university comes to an end

Faculty and university representatives have left the negotiation table with a satisfactory agreement in place, according to local business sources. After some tensions on the union front, the University of North Florida managed to come to an agreement regarding a new contract for faculty, ending a contract dispute that has been ongoing for some time. While some of the contract still needs to be negotiated, both sides seem relatively happy with the new agreement.

Contract dispute between CBS and Time Warner settled

A month-long blackout of CBS-produced shows in key markets has ended, according to local business sources. Florida residents may be aware that a contract dispute between the media giant and broadcasting partner Time Warner had led to many shows not being aired in certain areas of the country while the moguls hashed it out in court. But a new broadcasting rights agreement is set to return these markets to their regularly scheduled programming.

Contract dispute leads South Florida company to court

An ongoing dispute between the Major League Baseball organization and the clinic accused of providing its players with performance-enhancing drugs has been a topic of news for some time. The South Florida clinic Biogenesis has come under fire for allegedly causing a contract dispute between the League and the Player's Association regarding the specifics of "doping" as outlined in the contracts. Most recently, a Miami Dade judge denied a motion to dismiss the case against Biogenesis, pushing the case forward.
